International Manufacturing Forum Series 2021 – 4th November 2021 – Management of Digital Manufacturing

The International Manufacturing Forum Series is a major initiative from the Centre for Rapid and Sustainable Product Development (CDRSP) of the Polytechnic of Leiria in Portugal. This is a twelve day virtual conference spread over 12 months, with a one conference held on the first Thursday of each month. Each one day conference will focus on a specific topic within the broad umbrella of Manufacturing. There will be a particular emphasis on topics related to Industry 4.0 and Digital Manufacturing. CDRSP is a centre of excellence in the field of Direct Digital Manufacturing and was recently judged by an International Panel of the Foundation for Science and Technology to be the best Research Unit in the field of Mechanical Engineering and System Engineering in Portugal.
The widespread adoption of digital technologies by the global information and communications technology industry has paved the way for disruptive approaches to product development, production, and the its entire inherent logistics chain. “Industry 4.0” incorporates services that fuse the digital and physical components, joining the notion of “internet of things” (machines, devices and sensors connected in network) with the existence of intelligent systems and their increasing automation, in a manner similar to social networks. Moreover, the inherent technologies link mechanical and electronic components that then communicate with each other through a network collecting data, allowing the entire factory to have not only a physical embodiment, but also a cybernetic structure. As a result, they support the improvement of the manufacturing process using fundamental data sets for process analysis and improvement of the entire operation. These and other innovations allow for better performance, greater flexibility in product customization, lower waste generation and greater optimization, both internally and throughout the chain of innovation within a given sector, increasing the importance of knowledge exchanges along integrated value chains. We invite papers which address any aspect of this emerging area with respect to both the technology, simulations, case studies and applications. Please submit your abstract prepared using the template available here and submit using the form available here. Abstract will be considered immediately they arrive, so please send your abstract as soon as possible to secure a slot in the programme.“
